This Morning, I heard Badly Drawn Boy (aka Damon Gough) being interviewed on the Good Morning Sunday programme, hosted by Aled Jones on Radio 2.
The format of these programmes is that Aled will interview the guest artist about their work, influences etc. At some stage in the interview, Aled will bowl the (rather predictable) bouncer, along the following lines: "Has faith / spirituality / God influenced your work", sometimes leading to embarrased erms and ahs from the interviewee.
Badly Drawn Boy was interesing. He had been brought up as a Catholic but had since drifted from organised religion.
He talked about the presence of God as possibly residing in the people and places he had seen, and, possibly, through stuff like music, rather than in the orthodox view of God as depicted in religious text.
Nice one!
